SYLG's shipping container exhibition - temporary gallery and urban sculpture, both at the same time...
waisenhausplatz, berne (CH)  |  16.-18. march  |  2009

In spring of 2009 artacks entered the world of urban art by setting up its first exhibition. It took place in the laid back city of Bern, the capital of Switzerland. The exhibition was dedicated to the work of two of the most juicy local urban artists – S-Y-L-G. As a starting point they were entrusted an old iron steel shipping container to transform it into a piece of art. Over the course of three days they lay hands on it and turned its rusty outside into a into a blast of patterns and shapes – not without properly documenting this artistic process.

After completion of this process the shipping container was put right in the center of the picturesque pedestrian area of Bern. There it served as a stage to hold S-Y-L-G’s first ever solo exhibition. The interior of the container provided a distinctive gallery space where a selection of their works was put on public display. With this shift of capacity the container turned from a mere artistic object into a temporary venue for the sake of urban art. This ambiguity of character – the intertwined functions of the inside and the outside – was reflected by the title of the project: “goin’out” gave room to consider the artistic profiles and works of the two artists in the range of graffiti culture.
