Schwarzmaler15er - Incident in Budapest

Hip Hop music coined them, the aerosol can was their loyal companion – those are Schwarzmaler15er’s creative roots. While wes21, kkade, bare04, mower, klex, aero and kese27 have mastered classic graffiti styles and techniques, they’ve moved far and beyond this artistic corset. With new formats, styles and tools they have entered new and uncharted territory.
Budapest is next. The exhibition ‘Incident in Budapest’ marks another milestone in the work of the young Swiss art collective. The famous GOZSDU courtyard sets the backdrop and grants the artists a unique opportunity to provide spectators with a synoptic view of their creative works. Sketches, posters, print editions, paintings, films and even complete, finely sprayed interior designs in the distinct Schwarzmaler15er style are all on display in Eastern Europe’s culture capital.

In the ‘Incident in Budapest‘, Schwarzmaler15er leave no wall or canvas untouched – a sweeping blow at the fast pace and rampant indifference of our times. The artists visualize socially charged incidents and events by putting their spray cans to good use in the inspiring setting of the GOZSDU courtyard, the premises kindly provided by ‘telep’. Will they force people to come to a full stop?

Can they jolt apathetic modern-day men and women from their mass media induced lethargy? See for yourself how their art lends us a distinct mirror of society, one that serves as a reminder of things we tend to forget way too quickly. A wake-up call.
